HISTORY OF CHOC
Chocolate, as we know it, was first discovered in 600 AD when the Mayans cultivated the first cocoa plantations on the Yucatan peninsula.

Cocoa in those days was mixed with water and drunk as a bitter-tasting beverage known as “Xocolatl”, from which the word chocolate is derived.

It was not until 1528 that Hernan Cortés after the conquest of the Aztec Empire, brought the first cocoa and the utensils necessary for its preparation, back to Europe. Plenty of honey and cane sugar were needed to make the drink palatable to Europeans.

It was not until the eighteenth/nineteenth centuries, after the industrial revolution and the invention of the steam engine, that cocoa came into mass production.
